All students, faculty and staff are urged to attend. The public is welcome. The finalists were selected from 38 original applicants and were among a dozen interviewed by a 25 person search committee representing campus constituents and community members.
Four were selected as finalists but one candidate subsequently withdrew. On May 17, the day after the forum, the Board of Trustees will hold personal interviews with each person.
The finalists, all California residents, have a wealth of classroom teaching and administrative experience. They are (in order of appearance at the forum):
Mr. Jerry Patton, currently Assistant Superintendent/President, Administrative Services, for College of the Desert. He will take the stage from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Dr. Della Condon, currently Assistant Superintendent /VP of Instruction, San Joaquin Delta College, Stockton. Her forum appearance is scheduled for 1:45 to 2:45 p.m.
Dr. Paulette Perfumo, former Superintendent/President, Solano Community College, Fairfield. She will wrap up the series of forum presentations from 3 to 4 p.m.
Mr. Patton, who lives in Indian Wells, holds an MBA from Southwest Missouri State. He is a veteran community college business officer and a former Marine who transferred to the Missouri Army National Guard and became a commissioned officer. Before becoming COD's Chief Business Officer in 2004, he held similar positions at West Hills Community College in Coalinga and Palomar College in San Marcos. He was promoted in 2995 to Assistant Superintendent/President at COD while retaining his Vice President of Administrative Services position. Patton served on a statewide panel of college business executives that carved out a more equalized funding formula for California community colleges, approved last year by the Legislature.
Dr. Condon lives in Stockton, where she is Assistant Superintendent/President and Vice President of Instruction at San Joaquin Delta College, a post she's held since January 2005. Prior to that, she was at Riverside Community College for 25 years. There she served as Provost (essentially the Chief Academic Officer) and was Vice President of Human Resources for 11 years, following a long career as a faculty member. As part of faculty, she served as Academic Senate President for four years and was the president of the faculty union for eight years. Dr. Condon also spent four years at Cerritos College as a faculty member and Department Chair.
Dr. Perfumo, whose home is in Benicia, was Superintendent/President of Solano Community College from January 2003 to December 2006. Prior to that, she was Deputy Superintendent and Vice President of Educational Services at Ohlone College in Fremont, serving northern California's East Bay. She held that post for nearly six years before being promoted to the Solano position. She was Assistant Superintendent/President of Instruction at Lassen Community College in Susanville for two years and spent 10 years as Dean of Economic Development and Applied Technology at Sierra College in Rocklin. She spent two four years in the Chancellor's Office in Sacramento, rising to State Administrator of Vocational Education.
