Javier "Javi" Gutierrez, will be deeply missed by friends

The life of a COD student was tragically cut short by a car accident on the night of
Friday October 12.
Javier Gutierrez, 18, of Cathedral City, was in a roll-over accident on Highway 62, a short distance North of
Indian Ave.
Gutierrez survived the roll-over and got out of his car, only to be struck by another vehicle, which was reported to be an unspecified model of
Sport Utility Vehicle.
Gutierrez was taken from the scene to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he died of his injuries only a few hours later.
A small group of Gutierrez' friends gathered outside of the Hilb center between classes the following Mon-day to remember him. Most in the group of black-clad students had little to say. Gutierrez' passing seemed to have left a conspicuous void in their circle of friends.
When asked about the incident, one of the mourning students, Ian Zedwick, ex-pressed his anger towards the driver who struck Gutierrez.
Zedwick said that he might prefer never to find out who it was that ran over Gutierrez. According to Zediwick it is difficult to think of someone who could cause so much pain, even accidentally, as a human being.
The group said that it is difficult to accept that "Javi", as they knew their friend, is gone simply because somebody made a mistake. Indeed the idea that such tremendous consequences can result from mere error is disconcerting to
say the least.
