Spring 2010 registration begins Thursday, December 3rd for Priority 1 students. The registration process can be frustrating as classes are expected to fill quicker than in the past, due to severe budget cuts, fewer class sections being offered and higher enrollments expected.
Sally Tiaga, Director of Admissions and Records, offers some helpful advice to students to make the registration process easier. She recommends reading the class schedule very carefully. The schedule will be available on campus by the last week of November, with a limited number being mailed to student's homes. The schedule will also be available on the COD website by mid-November.
Make sure you know your Priority Registration date. For spring, Priority 1 begins December 3; Priority 2 begins December 7; Priority 3 begins December 9; and December 14 for students new to COD.
Tiaga encourages students to understand deadlines and "Don't wait." Tiaga ex-plains to students that paying within five days means, "count the day you enroll as the first day" in order to avoid being dropped for non-payment. Allow time to see a counselor, register, and apply for financial aid.
A Waitlist procedure will begin for spring registration; this will eliminate crashing classes and students standing in long lines to register for classes during the first week of the semester.
All notifications will be done by email, so make sure your current email address is on file in the Admissions and Records office. Better yet, be sure to sign up for your COD email, My-COD.US. This email a-ccount will become your best way to communicate on campus.
COD offers a payment plan for students so they don't get dropped for non-payment, if they can't pay their fees within the allotted time period. Go to www.collegeofthedesert.edu/paymentplan for more details.
Tiaga emphasizes that students need a photo ID for all transactions in Admissions and Records, Counseling and Financial Aid offices.
California budget cuts to COD will force some cutbacks in the hours of operation and programs being offered next spring. Currently, Admissions and Records is closed on Friday, that will continue through the spring semester.
By April, the Admissions and Records office, along with most other Student Services, will be relocating to the new Cravens Student Services Center that is under construction now. Admissions and Records will be on the second floor. The staff is looking forward to the new location to better serve the students.

When the staff relocates all hell usually breaks loose. I hope there is something they can do to control everything.
